Spiritual Parenting

Spirituality is often an area that is overlooked when we think of children and their upbringing. Yet it holds great importance when we look at the meaning of all our lives. Spirituality has little to do with religion; religion in my view is simply a means a person chooses to explore their spirituality. Spirituality, I feel, is the essence of who we are; our divinity; our oneness, that which connects us to everyone around us, the world in which we live and our higher selves, or if you like God. We are more than just the physical being we see when we look in the mirror, much more. In fact that physical body is a tiny part of the presence that lies within all of us.

When we have a child we are safeguarded with a spirit that has chosen us to introduce them to their new world. This spirit is older and wiser than would first appear and they have as much to teach us, as we do them.

Children show us daily how to embrace life, to live in the now. They show us the magic and wonder that surrounds us and which we, through many years of conditioning, have grown to deny. They hold none of the judgments and cynicism that we have grown so accustomed to. Their minds and hearts are open; they are guided by their intuition and are so in tune with their inner experiences. This special connection, as I see it, needs to be nurtured so that as they grow they remain in tune with who they are and continue to see and experience the goodness and joy the world has to offer them. By helping our children to maintain a connection with their higher-selves, we are giving them the means to overcome fears and feelings of isolation. We are teaching them to discover, accept, trust and love themselves and the world that surrounds them; enabling them to find their unique and special purpose, their contribution to the world.

There are many ways in which we can help our children hold on to their spiritual affinity and in turn help ourselves too. In my view there is no hard and fast rule to parenting, or spiritual parenting for that matter. It is about finding what works for your family. Each child is unique and by being aware, incorporating and embracing our child’s inner experiences in our parenting approach we can connect better with our child. This is at times a challenging task as it means that we to have to work on our own reactions and belief systems. However, by bringing awareness to the needs and behavior of all those involved and by quieting our minds long enough to hear our own higher-selves we can find the solutions that will fit us and our children best. By being open to learning how to work with our children we can find a way forward. Active listening is a great tool in gaining insight and knowledge in helping us to teach and guide them through their lives. By finding some time to really listen and focus on our children we are invited to join their world and their experiences. By aiming to be as open, relaxed and non-judgmental as possible, we allow our children to express themselves fully.

Some of the specific areas you might want to focus on as a spiritual parent include:

Teaching Trust
By always being there for our children we show them that they are taken care of, we give them a sense of faith in us initially and then this can become the foundation to them having faith in others, themselves, and their divinity, whatever their belief system. This trust allows our children to fully explore and experience their life and all that surrounds them, both physically and spiritually.

Oneness
Through teaching our children that we are part of everything that surrounds us we show our divinity, and we encourage them to see the meaning and importance in their lives. Oneness can also help children to empathize with others and have compassion. Through oneness Children can also feel love for themselves, those around them and the world in which they live.

Virtues
By helping our children understand basic virtues we encourage them to find ways of living happily alongside others. We are giving them the means to understand the world in which they live, and how to find peace and happiness. They begin to appreciate that we are all equally important no matter what our differences or our beliefs. Our children can learn how to make informed choices, by allowing them to consider the consequences of their actions, their needs and the feelings of others.

Intuition
Through helping our children to stay connected to their inner guide, their intuition, is extremely important as it helps them to better understand themselves and their feelings. This enables them to trust themselves and make decisions that they feel good about. They can choose that which benefits and supports their highest good, a wonderful ability to have as they go through their lives.

Gratitude
Through gratitude and prayer children become aware of all that they have been blessed with in their lives. This gives them a positive focus rather than one that comes from negativity and lack. This positive focus is important for their very well being and it also directly relates to what they are able to create and manifest in their lives. Much has been spoken of the connection between gratitude and the law of attraction in Quantum physics. Gratitude and prayer also help children to see how they are taken care of, and this giving thanks reinforces their faith and trust in the divine, the higher source, or if you like ‘God’.

spiritual health question by Erika: What affect do you think Social and Spiritual have on individual or societal health?
We in the US generally do not incorporate Social and Spiritual concepts into our health care model.

spiritual health best answer:

Answer by JELLY
With Spiritual, I assume religion would give a person peace and calmness, which can reduce a number of serious health issues; heart attack, stroke, cancer, etc. And with Social, I think it’d give someone a chance to release their thoughts, fears and accusations; which is probably extremely good for your self esteem and health as well.

How You Can Live With Chronic Pain

Pain is relative. This is our bodies telling us that something isn’t right somewhere in our body and we need to take notice. One of the worse things you can do is ignore it.

Sometimes it comes as stabbing, other times as throbbing; it can be aching, pinching, pulling, and pounding, in whatever form it comes it’s never enjoyable. When it’s at its best, pain is simply a warning bell or whistle saying look at me. At its worse, it’s incapacitating. You are deprived of eating, sleeping, moving or functioning as a normal human being. You can’t even keep track of your thoughts. The only thing filling your mind is pain.

The idea and degree of pain fluctuates from patient to patient. You could have two persons with the same disease, same symptoms and have varying degrees of pain. Pain degrees hold a different view from person to person. There are those that cannot tolerate any pain, even at its mildest form and those that can withstand an immense, abundant, horrendous deal of pain and both describe the pain with the same adjectives. Therefore, pain is relative for each person.

Pain today has become a slave master to those of us that live with it. It’s like a tether around your neck. It tells you when you can come and go, how far, when you can sleep, when you can wake, it tells you when you can enjoy time with your friends and family and most of all chronic pain changes you in a way that you may not even recognize. Pain changes you emotionally as well as physically. Feelings of isolation and loneliness are not uncommon.

The emotional changes of pain are the hardest to deal with. The change to your lifestyle is enormous when you have chronic pain driving every single decision you make every day of your life. The apprehension of doing everything possible not to produce the pain causes unmentionable anxiety. When the pain does come, you are impatiently anxious longing for it to leave.

Acute and chronic are the two faces of pain. Pain is defined by the International Association for the Study of Pain as “an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage”.

For the most part acute pain results from injury to tissues. This pain comes on suddenly, for example, after an injury or surgery. The injury or surgery comes along with anxiety and emotional stress. Acute pain has the benefit of being able to be stopped through treatment. Physicians can diagnose the cause of the pain and treat the cause to halt the pain. A timeframe limits the pain and it will stop. The severity of the pain is also limited, as the tissue heals, the pain will stop.

Chronic pain is a different sort. The disease itself is representative of chronic pain. The degree of pain is affected by factors such as environment and psychological factors. Chronic pain endures throughout an extended period of time and is resistant to the most highly effectual medical remedies. The chronic pain causes severe problems, physical and emotionally for patients. An essential role in of chronic pain is the attempt to manage it.

Living with an attempting to manage the pain to live your life as normally as possible is the ultimate goal for anyone that experiences pain. Acute pain you know there is an end in sight and you can easily adjust your life around this time period. For chronic pain, you must find a way to live your life to the fullest by managing this pain. If you don’t, emotionally and physically you will always be at a crossroads for everything you touch and that touches you. This includes your relationships with others and their relationship with you. Try to recall there was a time before pain and the feelings that were there. With pain management, you may not get all those feelings back. However, you will get as close as modern medicine can get you.

back pain question by teengurl: Back Pain, ?
I am fourteen years old, and have had back pain for about three years, it comes and goes. My family practice doctor sent me to have X-Rays and MRI’s and I have even gone to a back surgery doctor, and they cant find nothing. I have gone to physical therapy and everything, it started with lower back, now is in my shoulders and goes done. It is throbbing, pain, that stays there. What could be wrong? Should my family take me to an out of town doctor? They keep saying “Muscle Spasms” but this much?
