Effective Drug rehab and recovery programs in Utah do exist.

Article by Ms. Stephanie Miller

Living in Utah, on its own almost means you have to live to a different set of standards. Someone mentions Utah and the image conjured up is pristine mountains, awesome skiing and of course Salt Lake City. It’s hard to imagine that with all the beauty of Utah comes the reality that real people live there too, people that have addictions to alcohol and drugs. If you are a reading this, it may be you are doing so because you, yourself, are an alcoholic and you are looking to find a drug and alcohol rehab. You may also be looking to find treatment centers for a loved one who in need of drug rehab in Utah . Good for you. The only way to make a change is to take that first step. Now that you have made that step towards your own personal freedom, you need to take the next. And you need to understand it. When a person quits doing something that they were addicted to, they will go through withdrawals. Alcohol withdrawals can be severe, mentally, but especially physically. Finding the right drug and alcohol rehab is important for your recovery.

If you are stopping the use of alcohol and/or other drugs, you need to strongly consider finding a residential drug and alcohol rehab. This will help you through the process of detoxifying your body. Your body will have a hard time adjusting to the missing alcohol and drugs in your body and your brain will have a hard time reconciling the loss of the psychoactive agents in the drugs that you were using. This can take a horrible toll on your body.

Delirium tremens, the DTs, are what happen when you stop drinking. DTs are a serious alcohol-withdrawal syndrome. It mostly occurs in people who stop drinking alcohol following continuous and heavy consumption. DTs cause profound confusion, hallucinations, and severe nervous system over-activity, and it typically begins between 48 and 96 hours after the last drink. Signs and symptoms peak in 4 to 5 days and these symptoms may fluctuate for several weeks after you stop drinking. Although DTs only affects about 5% of people withdrawing from alcohol, the symptoms are severe and can result in death. Without help, the risk of mortality is increased from 5%-10% to as high as 20%. Treatment centers are all over Utah to help you through this very difficult time.

Ms. Stephanie Miller: After many years of alcoholism Ms. Miller sought help through a drug and alcohol rehab in Salt Lake City, Utah . When she was in her early twenties. Ms. Miller has been sober for the last ten years. She is a counselor for recovering alcoholics spends her weekends volunteering at various Alcohol treatment centers in Utah .

Stop Living With Your Addiction And Get Your Life Back

Article by Sunset Malibu

If you’re here, reading this, you already know how awful it is to live with addiction. You don’t need to be told that substance abuse strips its victims of their dignity, and leaves them incapable of relating to everything and everyone they’ve ever cared about. You also shouldn’t need to be told that the only real addiction recovery is long-term addiction recovery that starts at an exclusive addiction treatment center. In the end, healing isn’t really healing unless it lasts forever.

Many of the most exclusive alcohol addiction treatment centers in Los Angeles focus on the short-term milestones of the recovery process. This is a mistake. Yes, it’s important that a rehab resident celebrate his first month of sobriety

Meth Addiction and Treatment

Article by Andrew Sayers

Methamphetamine, or simply Meth, is a powerful psychostimulant and sympathomimetic drug. It is considered a second line of treatment, used when amphetamine and methylphenidate cause the patient too many side effects. It is only recommended for short-term use (for as long as 6 weeks) in treatment-resistant obesity patients because it is thought that the anorectic effects of the drug are short-lived and produce tolerance quickly.Meth is primarily used now illegally for recreational purposes, weight loss and to maintain alertness, focus, motivation, and mental clarity for extended periods of time. It is addictive, especially when injected or smoked. While not life-threatening, withdrawal is often intense and, as with all addictions, relapse is common. 12 Step meetings, such as Crystal Meth Anonymous are available as a meth addiction treatment.

Methamphetamine-induced hyperstimulation of pleasure pathways leads to anhedonia. It is possible that daily administration of the amino acids L-Tyrosine and L-5HTP/Tryptophan can be considered as a meth addiction treatment by making it easier for the body to reverse the depletion of Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and Serotonin. Although studies involving the use of these amino acids have shown some success, this method of recovery has not been shown to be consistently effective.

To combat addiction, doctors are beginning to use other forms of amphetamine such as dextroamphetamine as meth addiction treatment to break the addiction cycle in a method similar to the use of methadone in the treatment of heroin addicts. For methamphetamine problems, there are no publicly available drugs comparable to naloxone, which blocks opiate receptors and is therefore used in treating opiate dependence. However, experiments with some monoamine reuptake inhibitors such as indatraline have been successful in blocking the action of methamphetamine. There are studies indicating that fluoxetine, bupropion and imipramine may reduce craving and improve adherence to treatment. Research has also suggested that modafinil can help addicts quit methamphetamine use.

Methamphetamine or meth addiction is one of the most difficult forms of addictions to treat. Although Wellbutrin, Abilify, and Baclofen have been employed to treat post-withdrawal cravings the success rate is low. Modafinil is somewhat more successful, but this is a Class IV scheduled drug. Ibogaine has been used with success in Europe, but is a Class I drug and available only for research use. Remeron has been reported useful in some small-population studies.

Andrew Sayers is currently working as a social worker in California that helps and supports those that wants to be cured of their addiction to drugs and alcohol. Once addicted to alcohol and drugs in his adolescent years, his able to provide the proper information on how to get out of the habit and live a clean living life.

How can I stop my behavioral addiction on my own?

The answer to what your first step in stopping your behavioral addiction should be lies in the addiction itself. What is it all about? As we’ve spoken about before, the first thing I would recommend is, without shame, without blame, and without putting yourself down, stand back, get out a spreadsheet or a piece of graph paper and start to just graph how often and the frequency of when you engage in this particular behavior. Beyond that, there’s a substantial amount that you might do. That is, figure out what times you typically engage in the behavior. If you look at an addict, generally speaking, they engage in their destructive behavior in a slice of hours. Let’s say 5:00 to 7:00, or early in the morning, or something like that. Those are the hours that the body has been taught (sort of like muscle memory) to go and to engage in these sort of behaviors, and the individual should try to find activities that are inconsistent with the destructive addictive behavior. Another sort of strategy: they may go to the self-help book section at their local library or bookstore, they might go on the Internet and try to get some basic knowledge about what might be going on, they can consult a professional; a psychologist or a physician who is specializing in addiction. Let’s just be frank. Most physicians have no idea about addictions. They have a very pessimistic view on being able to cure an addiction. So, you need to seek out somebody who really knows something about it, and don’t

The Disease Model of Addiction and Twelve-Step Program

Article by Donna Sparks

Drug rehabs or drug rehabilitation centers are used to treat patients, especially teens, that suffer from excessive or abusive use of psychoactive substances such as alcohol, prescription drugs, and the so-called street drugs like cocaine, heroin and amphetamines. In a drug rehab, patients undergo treatment in order to learn how to stop themselves from using addictive substances. This is done either by subjecting oneself to medication or to different approaches to drug and substance addiction. In a teen treatment center, however, one commonly used approach to addiction treatment is the disease model of addiction.

The disease model of addiction stresses that the abusive use of alcohol and other similar substances are the results of a lifelong disease that is biological in nature and is worsened by environmental factors such as peer pressure, family problems, or personal emotional conflicts. This biological disease renders a teenager powerless over his or her problematic behaviors and unable to remain sober by himself/herself, much like how terminally ill individuals are unable to fight the disease by themselves without medication. In order to treat it, the common method requires the patients to admit their addiction, renounce their former lifestyle, and seek a supportive social network that can help them remain sober – a method used in the 12-step program.

The twelve-step program, as was described when it was published in the Alcoholics Anonymous book in 1939, is a program proposed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a method of recovery from alcoholism. Though this approach has met considerable amounts of criticism, several studies by teen treatment centers have revealed that affiliation with twelve-step programs predicts abstinence success at 1-year follow-up. It registered encouraging success rates that it has become the foundation of other twelve-step programs such as Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Co-Dependents Anonymous and Debtors Anonymous..

The Twelve-step program involves the following:

*

Admitting that one cannot control one’s addiction or compulsion; *

Recognizing a greater power that can give strength; *

Examining past errors with the help of a sponsor (experienced member); *

Making amends for these errors; *

Learning to live a new life with a new code of behavior; *

Helping others that suffer from the same addictions or compulsions.

Though this process may take more time than just undergoing medication, the practice has yielded considerable success. It is currently being utilized by many teen treatment center to slowly and steadily treat teenagers of their disease as well as teach their patients on how to live life away from addictive drugs.

addiction and recovery question by lord_andys_new_id: You would think that the big wave of addiction would lead to a wave of recovery but how would the youth think?
We know that more than ever drugs and alcohol seem to me a trend in musicians and actors. Who will someday realize what they are doing to themselves, even though it takes a lot of pain before most people discover this. Also any addict can be a future 12 step worker. At least at first it would hard for them to share their troubles, but can the messaage get through?
